PLANO EAST GARDEN
Certified Monarch Waystation + Schoolyard Wildlife Habitat
Plano East Senior High is home to a garden that is a certified Monarch Waystation and Schoolyard Wildlife Habitat. Endorsed by Monarch Watch and the National Wildlife Federation, this garden hosts a collection of native plants that are beneficial to local wildlife and migratory pollinators alike!
In fragmented landscapes (disrupted by development and urbanization), migratory pollinators need small patches of vegetation to serve as “stepping stones” on their journeys. At Plano East, our garden acts as just that!
In Our Garden:
Frogfruit (Phyla nodiflora)
“Henry Duelburg” Salvia (Salvia farinacea 'Henry Duelberg')
Gregg’s Mistflower (Conoclinium greggii)
We’ve partnered with PlantTag to enable passersby to identify and learn about each and every plant in our garden. If you’re ever visiting, just scan the QR code on the PlantTag sign for a deeper understanding of the habitat our students have cultivated!
