THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF ROBERT (ROB) SIMS
Robert (Rob) Ralph Sims passed peacefully on July 7th, 2023 at the age of 62. He is survived by his wife, Pam Sims; two children, Bryan Sims and Drew Sims; three siblings, Christopher Sims and his wife Kelly Sims, Laura Bullard and her husband Marvin Bullard, and Donna Sorrells;mother-in-law, Allie Busby; sister-in-law, Renee Weese and her wife Tina McCormick; 5 nephews, Jeff Weese and his wife Heather Weese, Brandon Burnham and his wife Veyunka Burnham, Zack Sims and his fiancé Whitney Poppell, Nick Sims and his wife Nicole Sims, Austen Sorrells and his fiancé Riley Dunn; 2 nieces, Stephanie Burnham and Ashly Sorrells; 6 great nephews, Hayden Stevens, Reid Weese, Wyatt Weese, Chance Sims, Cooper Sims, and Cash Sims; 4 great nieces, Lyric Burnham, Laiya Burnham, Landyn Burnham, Zoe Tolliver; and 1 great-grandniece, Freya Stevens.
Rob was born August 12, 1960 to Jean and Bob Sims. He attended Towers High School, where he met his wife Pam. Following Towers, Rob attended Clayton State and graduated with a degree in Management. This degree catapulted him into his longtime career in HVAC, which began with Atlanta Gas Light and ended with Daikin North America where he served as the Director of National Accounts for 9 years. Along the way, he spent more than 14 years working at Lennox Industries as both a Director and Vice President. Colleagues remember him as creating “comradeship amongst his peers and being focused on getting a mission accomplished.”
Rob was a family man and prioritized spending quality time with them. He started a tradition of taking family vacations with his wife Pam and their two sons, as well as his brother Chris & his family. These vacations were highlighted by swimming with dolphins, jet skis, relaxing beach days, and quality family dinners; all memories that wouldn’t have happened without Rob starting this yearly tradition.
Rob was also a man of many interests and talents. He was a remarkable golfer, an avid reader, a passionate sports fan, even sang in the choir at Metro Heights Baptist Church, and so much more. He used each of these passions or gifts to connect to the people around him.
Along with giving his family quality time, he made sure to always make them feel supported. Whether that was flying home to visit his mother when she was sick, attending his children’s games/events, or encouraging them to pursue their passions, he made it a priority to support them.
Rob left the world a better place than when he entered. He understood the importance of creating safe spaces for young people to pursue their passions and worked hard to do exactly that, in both his professional and personal lives. Professionally, Robert started a diversity, equity, and inclusion program which later served as the groundwork for a company-wide pride campaign. In his personal life, he worked hard to provide a safe space for his son Drew and his friends – and encouraged them to do the same for the next generation.
Instilled with these values from a young age, Drew followed his passion for working towards sustainable solutions to climate change with Robert’s full support. He created the FLOW Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing service learning opportunities to youth in the greater Dallas area, and Robert helped with this undertaking wherever possible. He was incredibly proud of his son and his drive to teach, encourage, and change the world.
Rob leaves behind a legacy of investing in the next generation and encouraging young people to follow their passions, and his family would like to ask anyone who feels so inclined to do so, as well. In lieu of flowers, the Sims ask that you please consider donating to FLOW and helping them to create a better, more sustainable world in Rob’s memory.
